The Awakening Russian Bear

Russia seems to be in the news a lot lately. There's the conflict in Ukraine and the trouble over Crimea. Putin is aggressively pushing Russian interests all around the world. They've new tanks, new classes of submarines, impressive fighter jets, and a willingness to rattle their sabers.

We've got to ask ourselves: Is this really a threat to Americans and our allies?

Russia's Navy is acting like a world power again. However, the fleet travels with large powerful tugboats because their ships break down all the time. One of their new tanks recently shut down in the middle of a military parade. Heck, they had a fire on a missile launcher during a parade. That can't be good.

One can't but help wonder if the perceived threats are really that bad or if something else is in play? Fear is a powerful tool. Fearful people are easily manipulated. How much of the “Russian Threat” is of real military concern and how much of it is media hype to control us? It's very hard for the average person to find out.

Russia has always been hyper sensitive about having buffer zones. Ukraine is next door to them and they have a long history in the Crimea. Study the Crimean War sometime. That's not to say the world should ignore what Russia is up to, but their actions address the things they fear.

Who in the West is really in danger from Russian actions? Isn't it the petroleum industry that competes directly with Russian oil? Isn't it the banking industry who fear Russia's diminishing reliance on the dollar for International trade?

One thing I know for sure. I'll be damned if I'm going to support another war to protect Big Oil, Big Banks, and Big Business in general. They are probably more of threat to me than the Russians are.

  1. The US have been instigating $hit for years. Would be nice if the rest of the country would wake up and tell the DC crowd no.

    1. We don't know the truth, yet they want us to send ourselves and our children into harm's way.

  3. I heard that Russia was going to participate, along with our troops, in "jade helm" in south Texas near the Rio Grand

    1. I've heard a lot of strange stuff about Jade Helm, but as for how much I believe . . .

  4. Russia is very dependent on energy sales. Ukraine was a prime customer. However large deposits of gas were found in the Crimea, large enough for the Ukraine to be energy independent and export to Europe. Next thing it gets Invaded!
However Putin has a famine coming in the Crimea as it is a very dry region and it's irrigation water was supplied via the Ukrainean mainland.
He won't invade though unless he thinks NATO will rollover. All the signs are that they won't. He knows that his army can't defeat a NATO force without resorting to tactical nukes.
A lot of his posturing is to hide the problems at home. With inflation at 16 percent, oil revenue down, a rapidly aging population and a road infrastructure that requires investment of an entire years GDP to bring it anywhere near decent he is starting to flounder.
It's sure to be interesting !

    1. Desperate governments do desperate things. The strength of Russia may be overestimated, but they still have nukes, so there's that consideration.

  5. I'm certainly no liberal, but it does seem like our government does all it can to alienate and aggravate the Russians. It's as if things are so bad here at home that Obama thinks he needs to create an "outside" boogy man to keep everybody here in line. The real enemy today is rampant Islamism, a force that threatens the Russians as much as it does us. But instead of trying to work together, our current Regime meddles in Russian affairs, insults the Russians at every opportunity, and generally stirs the pot to keep it boiling. I wonder if Obama just hates Putin because Putin is strong leader and Obama is a political hack wimp from Chicago?

    1. Doesn't make much sense, does it? Hard to believe Obama got a Nobel Peace Prize.

  6. We are gonna keep on baiting that bear until he lashes out one day. Be interesting to see how it works out when we actually attack somebody that knows how and is willing to fight back.

The steppes are full of corpses of those who have tried and failed to conquer Russia from the west.

But it won't come to that, at least with our boys, as Washington is willing to fight to the death of the last European.
