Into the hills

The weather cleared so I headed off into the hills. It’s partridge season so I took the old shotgun for a walk in the woods. A couple birds broke cover, but never presented a shot. That’s why it’s called hunting instead of getting. No matter. The day was mild and the scenery fantastic. My wandering took me much further up in the hills than the pursuit of birds would justify.

Sometimes it’s just worth it for the view.

This shot is take from the Kilkenny National Forest in New Hampshire. In the far distance is the Mahoosuc Mountain Range in western Maine. Pretty country to disappear in.

  1. If only it didn't receive that white stuff in winter...

    1. That has a beauty too, but my appetite for it is easily filled. There is way more winter than my taste for it.

  2. Fall is a lot more colorful up your way than here. You have more maples. It's still pretty here, though. Not yet since the clime is warmer. The color is beginning to change, the dogwoods first. Just not looking forward to the shorter days.

    1. The maples have been amazing this year.

Days are even shorter in the mountains. Seems the sun just clears one mountain before disappearing behind another.

  3. That is some pretty country there sir. Sometimes, its really hard to break the peace and quiet of the day, I've passed on some shots on game just for that reason. Guess I'm getting old.

With the anticipated price hike on meat in coming months, I intend to stock up on wild meats (venison) this year, really like to meet a wild hog or two especially.

    1. Just as happy not to have any hogs around here. While they can fill the freezer, they do a lot of damage to the land.

    1. As much as I love the ocean, I keep coming back to these hills.

  5. Beautiful country side. I love the falls colors too. As long as you enjoyed yourself thats all that matters, not how many birds you come back with.

    1. A walk through the hills does wonders for my state of mine -with or without hunting success.

  6. Hunting season just gives a reason to be out in the woods.

    1. It's a good reason. Nice to set on a stump with a thermos of coffee and some fresh apples.

  7. That view could go a long way to calming the soul, I'm thinking!

Way too flat here where I'm at!

    1. Even the TX hill country is bit flat for my liking.

Even though I grew up with views like this, they never get old.
